the evening started out normal enough... it was raining when i got to work... i walked in feeling like poop... as i have for most of this pregnancy... i sat down in my chair and started working....
the first 2 hours went by pretty uneventfully... i rolled around in the chair, as i always do, getting my work done.
a little after 8pm, i had to accompany one of the road sgt's over to the warrants division (which is on the other side of the building) to pull like 14 warrants for one woman who was in the jail already on shoplifting charges.....
the warrants i needed were in the bottom drawer, so i squatted down to locate them... took a couple of minutes.... when i stood back up, i almost passed out... i went all dizzy and the world started moving really fast... i caught myself on the desk so did not fall... the SGT made me sit down till ti got better... but it was taking a long time for the world to right itself again... on the walk back to my desk, the sgt observed that i was having trouble breathing and after he served the warrants he would be back up to check on me...
over the next 40 minutes or so, i had to walk back to warrants 3 more times to pull other warrants, and each time i felt worse and worse.... after the 4th time, i was sweating (my hairline was even wet).. and could not take a deep breath, still lightheaded and dizzy and at this point my lower abdomen had started hurting.... the sgt walked in, took one look at me and said he was calling EMS.... i didn't have the energy to argue anymore...
EMS got there and took my blood pressure (which was 133/86.. and considering my average is 107/60, that really freaked me out)... by this time i was really dizzy and having a hard time breathing so they decided to take me to the ER... i wasn't going to argue.... they gave me oxygen, which helped taking slower breaths.. and they started an IV if fluids in the ambulance and by the time we got to the hospital, i was feeling a bit better but definitely not "normal"...
DH was there when the ambulance pulled up (he was working too and they called him for me)
i didn't know what was wrong, but in the back of my head i was scared to death something was wrong with the baby and i didn't know it because of all the hormones i still have to take....
we get to the er and they take some blood, test my BP a few times (some standing some laying down) and decided to do an ultrasound to a)ease my own fears, and b)make sure the baby IS ok.... policy at this hospital is to put in a catheter to fill the bladder for an external U/S... can i just say ouch? and since i had had to pee, the catheter worked pretty quickly, lol.. so they also took a urine sample... they decided to give me some Antivert to help with the dizziness and gave me another bag of fluids to take in the IV...
after being there for an hour or so and talking to several nurses and the er dr, i was taken to ultrasound... now i have felt pain in my life and know the level of my own tolerance... but that chick filling my bladder through the cath, while pressing on my abdomen with the ultrasound thingy at the SAME time was NOT an experience i care to ever have to repeat.... as expected, you really can't see very much at this stage of pregnancy with a belly U/S so she emptied my bladder... thank God!!!!!... to do a vaginal ultrasound next....
the vag u/s was not as painful, and much more entertaining... DH was there with me and could see the screen the whole time... we saw the TiggerBean's heartbeat immediatly and DH says Tiggerbean was moving around a lot and punching and kicking at the vag wand.. lol... the tech did turn the screen and i got to see the baby move around a lot, the whole body was moving, like practicing for the long jump.. lol it was so cool...
TiggerBean at 9w4d...
it was great to see the baby is ok.. and definitely soothed those fears.. but i was still somewhat dizzy and having trouble focusing on things without them moving away from my focus.... that bothered me because i couldn't think of what could be causing it....
the tech takes me back to my room and after about 40 minutes, the dr comes back in and says the baby is fine, and measuring exactly how a 9w4d fetus should.... yay!....and advisedthat i am very dehydrated... that is why i got so lightheaded and also explains the breathing difficulty....
it looks like my usual method of keeping track of how much i drink based on how often i pee does not work when pregnant... since i am peeing more often because of the baby, not because of the fluid... so i have to be more careful now to make sure i drink enough fluids....
i really never knew pregnancy was this difficult.... lol
only 30.5 weeks to go :)
